The Croods Film Review

The Croods is a brilliantly original, fast-paced, action-packed animation flick which will grip you from start to finish.

The story follows a family of cavemen - the Croods - who have become adapted to living in the wild and fending off the dangers surrounding them. However, when the world starts to end and their cave is destroyed, they must set out and find a new place to live.

Going against everything they have ever known, the clan have to face a whole wide world of fantastical creatures and obstacles as they cross the land looking for safety. Luckily for them, they have quick-thinking, modern man Guy (Ryan Reynolds) on their side to aid them in their quest for survival.

Guy’s intelligence and bravery has won over the family, except for the head of the group, Grug (Nicolas Cage), who is riled by the newbie’s presence and disagrees with his carefree way of living.

Grug is annoyed because Guy appears to be leading his brood astray, especially his eldest daughter Eep (Emma Stone), who has taken a special fancy to the daring explorer.

The film sees the motley clan embark on a riveting and fun-filled journey across a colourful new land full of excitement and adventure, enduring many ups and downs along the way.

It has beautiful computerised scenery and a range of cool characters, a wicked soundtrack and an awesome storyline – all of which make for a brilliant cinematic experience.

I would have liked to see more of Guy’s cute pet sloth, Belt, who is absolutely adorable and provides much of the comedy. His character wasn’t shown enough, which I feel was a great shame, so a better depiction of all the personalities individually would have made for more personable viewing.

Conclusion: Pleasantly prehistoric, The Croods is a refreshingly different animated movie which will delight the whole family. Don’t get stuck in the dark ages – give it a watch!
