Students Leaving The Library for a Tour Bus

A group of students in Birmingham have left their studies behind, and embarked on a UK music tour. However, the third year undergraduates are not abandoning their dissertations to become rock stars.

The four students who study Media and Communication at Birmingham City University have set up a music management firm, Solitude Management, for their final year project.

Kieron McCarthy, Brett Wallington, Olatain Ola-said and Tom Bower have signed a number of bands from around the UK, and to celebrate, the company have embarked on a rock tour to showcase their acts to the public.

The tour started on Wednesday, and the 362 mile round trip will take the foursome and the bands to Basingstoke, Bristol, Pontypool and finally ending in our city, Birmingham, tomorrow evening.

The gig this Saturday takes place at The Asylum Venue in the city centre, where local band Sexwolf! will be performing under their new management. The team are also booking agents for band Hallencourt, who will also be performing on the night.

Tom stated, “Most of the students on our course are putting on one or two gigs in Birmingham for their projects. However having already done similar events in previous years at University, we decided to really push ourselves and hit the road.”

Commenting on how they’d thrown themselves in at the deep end, Brett said, “This will be a completely new experience for all of us, and I’m sure we will learn lots from it.”

A second tour around the Midlands is currently being planned by Solitude Management.
