Here at Student Speak we like to be kept
up-to-date with the latest goings on – whether that’s in the land of showbiz,
current gadgets or just an amazing product – we are all over it! Here, our team
of journalists discuss what is rocking their world at the moment...
The return of Catchphrase
“How excited was I upon the
discovery that a new and improved ‘Catchphrase’ was returning to our screens
this year? With the wonderful Stephen Mulhern on board as host, the first
episode was entertaining, fun and easy to get stuck into. It’s definitely one
of those game shows that gets you shouting at the television, frenetically trying
to guess the right answer before the contestants do. Then there’s that feeling
of a ridiculous sense of pride and smugness when you get it right... Let’s face
it, we all love a good game show every now and then, it’s a great form of
escapism!”
Amrit
loves:
“Instagram has been around for
quite a while but it’s becoming increasingly popular amongst us social
networkers. It’s an addiction, Instagraming everything from our food or the
snow in our gardens. The greatest thing about this App is that you can add different
effects to your pictures so if you have a spot you want to hide or you want to
blur someone out all you have to do is hit the button.
Instagram is also a great way of following your favourite celebs and feeling that little bit closer to them. Images such as Kim Kardashian’s baby bump Or Frankie from The Saturdays engagement ring were first aired on Instagram. You can follow fitness enthusiasts, make-up artists or fashion experts to keep up with the latest trends. It’s definitely an app worth having!”

Little
Mix Feat Missy Elliot: “How Ya Doin’?”

“I have never been
keen on Little Mix – I didn’t particularly warm to them on X Factor, and to me,
their songs have always had that sort of wishy-washy, take-them-or-leave-them
sort of vibe. But when I heard their latest offering, “How Ya Doin’?”, I was
instantly taken aback. It’s reminiscent of a 90’s pop song, with its boppy
beat, catchy lyrics and attitude-abundant tone. It also helps that the
super-cool Missy Elliott is onboard, stamping her urban funk all over it and
taking them to a whole new level with her distinct rapping. You’ll love it on
the first listen.”
James Franco
“He first burst onto our scenes as Peter Parker’s gorgeous best
friend in the ‘Spiderman’ trilogy, and he’s been appearing in hit films ever
since. Blockbuster ‘127 Hours’, based on the true story of Aron Ralston, gained
Franco an Oscar nomination for ‘Best Actor’, which established him as one of
the most desired actors in the industry. My personal favourite would be the
‘The Rise of the Planet of the Apes’, where he starred as charming scientist
who raises the ape Caeser with human-like qualities. The Hollywood heart-throb
recently starred in ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ as the wizard himself, and this
month he’s back again in cinema’s again in ‘Spring Breakers’, where he plays
Alien a dealer who gets involved with four college girls. James Franco is a favourite
actor of mine, not only for his handsome good looks, but for his talent as an
actor, and being able to portray different types of characters in every role he
takes on.”
