Money Saving Tips

As students, money can be tight. Student loans can only stretch so far, so looking after your pennies is important. Here are a few tips to help you save some cash.

Invest in a piggy bank:

It may seem a childish concept, but it is actually a highly effective saving technique. Maybe even have two; one to store those pesky coppers and another for your pound coins. This will not only help you save but it ensures that you are more financially organised. If you slot a couple of coins into your fund on a weekly or fortnightly basis, then not only will it give you a sense of accomplishment, but it will increase your savings gradually – creating a nice little money stash for you with minimal effort. This is perfect if you are saving up for a holiday or something important, because it allows you to focus on keeping your money safe and in order.

Split costs with friends:

There are plenty of ways that you can save money with your friends. For instance, if going out clubbing and you are wary about the expense, ask your friends to buy a bottle of wine or a crate of ciders for the pre-drinks and you can split the cost between a few of you. Simple, yet effective, as it makes all the difference to your bank account in the long-run. It’s also a fun way to cut costs – downing cheap fruity shots with pals or splitting a crisp bottle of wine with your bezzie? Oh, go on then!

Utilise student discounts:

Don’t just utilise them, exhaust them! Show your student I.D. so much that the picture fades! Why? Because you aren’t going to be a student forever – you should appreciate your discount whilst you have it, because when your card expires you can no longer feel sorry for yourself, as your “poor student” label will no longer be fitting. Ask at every store you go in if they have student discount, and make a note of which stores do, because you can slash the prices of your purchases significantly just by venturing into the right places.
