Cats Musical Review

Do you know what a ‘Jellicle’ cat is? Have you ever wondered how you address a cat? Or how many names they have? Well all this can be answered all in one musical, and it takes place on stage at a rubbish tip! Only in an Andrew Lloyd Webber production.

‘Cats’ is delighting audiences in Wolverhampton at the Grand Theatre, and showing them exactly why it is one of the longest running shows in the West End. With amazing choreography and many familiar tunes, combined with fantastic costumes and make up, it guarantees to be one hell of a night.

Based on T.S Elliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, telling the story of one night in the year where all the Jellicle cats meet at the Jellicle Ball where one cat is chosen to be reborn into a whole new life. The lyrics of the musical numbers tell fascinating stories about each cat on the stage, as you learn their backgrounds with catchy tunes.

The talented cast perform with such feline mannerisms, entertaining the audiences as they prowl up and down the aisles of the theatre. A magical contribution from Joseph Poulton as Mr Mistoffeelees, the conjuring cat with magical power, along with Joanna Ampil and her heart-breaking performance of the show-stopper ‘Memory’, before gliding up to the sky, are the stars of the show.

There was nothing to fault with the musical, and it is a phenomenal master-piece and deserves the standing ovation it receives every night. It will be in Wolverhampton until 30th March, so grab yourself some tickets now for some purr-fect fun!
